Daith Piercing

Piercings are a beautiful way to express your individuality. If a daith piercing—or any new piercing—is calling to you, a little research goes a long way. The more you understand about the process and aftercare, the more confident you’ll feel stepping into the studio. Helix Piercing in Okotoks is here to guide you with expert care every step of the way.

What Is a Daith Piercing?

The daith is one of the most striking and distinctive piercings you can choose. It travels through the innermost fold of cartilage, known as the crus of the helix, creating a statement at the heart of your ear. Though the placement is technically advanced, the healing tends to be mild, resulting in a uniquely rewarding and eye-catching accent.

Daith Piercings For Migraines

This is one of the most intriguing attributes often associated with the daith piercing. The placement of the daith piercing can be linked to acupuncture points that some individuals explore for migraine relief. While we don’t make medical claims or promise specific results, many clients have shared positive experiences and choose this piercing as part of their wellness journey. At Helix Piercing, we offer a calm, professional setting and expert placement to ensure a beautiful and meaningful experience.

Type of Jewelry Used for Daith Piercing

For initial healing, a simple 16-gauge captive ring (CBR) or horseshoe provides the best comfort and stability for healing. After a base healing period of 4–6 months—with six months being the most common milestone—many clients are ready to upgrade to a more ornate clicker for a custom look. Your piercer can help size and style the jewelry to suit your anatomy so it fits securely and beautifully.

How to Change Out a Daith Piercing

Do not attempt jewelry changes until the piercing has reached the 4–6 month base healing stage and feels comfortable. Changing too early can lead to irritation and other problems. You are always welcome to return to Helix Piercing for a professional readiness check—our team can confirm when it’s safe to change and, if appropriate, perform the swap for you.

Jewelry-changing appointments can be booked online and typically take about 15 minutes.

Healing Time and Aftercare

Every body heals at its own pace, but most daith piercings require a total healing window of 9–12 months before the tissue is fully mature.

Key aftercare guidelines include:

Gentle daily care. Rinse twice daily with a mild, sterile saline solution or a packaged wound wash spray. Remove any matter with a clean Q-tip, being mindful of cotton or cloth that can snag.

(After care spray is available in the studio)

Hands off for best results. Avoid twisting or rotating the jewelry. Touch only with clean, freshly washed hands when cleaning.

Lifestyle awareness. Sleep on the opposite side, use a travel pillow if needed, and take care when brushing hair, wearing headphones, or changing clothing to prevent bumps.

We’ll provide personalized aftercare both verbally and in writing, and we are always available for check-ins to track your progress.
